Kids Today

Thank God the URL to my blog is still valid. And I can still remember the password to my blogger page. Since my last entry, only today I come check my blog, read comments trailed by readers.

Thank you guys! And thanks to the ones who have left no traces too.

I am prone to write long stories because telling stories are always the acme of my purpose. But this time around, I try to be short and sweet.

I have been dealing a lot with the educationists lately and quite naturally this entry has got something to do with children and education then. Well, it tickles my mind over the youngsters of today. The way the education has made them. As far as what learning and knowledge is all about, it comes in abundance. They can be easily tapped through various resources the technology can offer. They are well-informed and smarter in many ways.

But, I personally see something lacking in our future leaders when it comes to moral and ethics. We were just a havoc like them too when we were young but I remember there were still boundaries we observed.

I am from the old school where teachers were dedicated to make us humans and we kids looked up on them. Whilst today, teachers are perhaps treated by our youngsters just like facilitators if not dissidents.

It’s not fair to say teachers today are of a lesser quality as they are now better educated and equipped as compared to the teachers those days. And it’s not substantiated well statistically either when we can see many achievements in moral values in the country are realized by the brains of later and new generations through a well-structured approaches. Neither technology can be blamed for creating a new landscape of mentality since technology is only a tool to help achieve the educational objectives.

So then, what is?

Sir,

Budak2 malaysia happy tak perlu berbaju ke? Weeeee...they seemed like enjoying those water splash/raindrops or something.

Speaking of the teachers, some of the problems cud be due to the ever-changing curriculum by the MOE. They had to make their best effort to keep up with the MOE demands while trying to face with parents scrutiny. I personally think that cikgu darjah 1-3 must be creative and smart enuf to teach the pupils all the basic skills they need in their learning process. Budak2 sekarang pun prolly outsmart their cikgu esp if they have highly educated parents and they already can read, write, counts and know how to operate the pc before they are standard 1. I guess cikgu2 nih pon kena tau sesuaikan diri dgn the standard of living.

Ish panjang citer di sini.

But it's true what Einstein quoted on what counts.

My two cents to your last question:

Kids nowadays are exposed to a gamut of impressionable experiences - smut, immoral, expletives and so forth - through the wonders of technology (Internet) as well as to an over-emphasis on materialism thanks to parents who substitute for their lack of presence with gifts galore.

As the saying goes, "It takes a village to raise a child"

a few months ago, my daughter nina asked me to send her for BM tuition because she said her teacher wasn't good.

then last week she told me that she and a friend chatted with the teacher and the teacher told her that she was 'fed-up'. i asked nina what the teacher was fed-up about, but she didn't know.

to me, our students' future is more important than feeling 'fed-up' and not teaching well. it just teaches the students irresponsibilty!

i sent my kid to the same primary school me n hubby were once a student way back in d late 70s-early 80s. the overall ambience has changed. a lot. children has become more outspoken and aggressive as compared to old days. but somehow, in many ways parents do contribute in d whole changing atmostphere, not just teachers.

* i masih x pcaya my 8yo son punya percubaan mengubah one of his fav computer game few days ago dgn test-open-edit setiap satu file yg ada. dia kata dia nk simplify the game. instead of completing semua game obstacles tu, dia nak cari jln pintas *sigh*

children nowadays are more advance than us when we were at their age. umur 5-6 tahun dah terer komputer. kite dulu dok main masak2, laga buah getah, berkubang kat baruh etc. sekarang ni mana ada dah cam gitu. tapi bila tengok skrg ni, our MOE pun cam tak nampak sangat hala tujunya. konpius gak ni. dulu2 tusyen cuma bila nak exam besar jer. la ni, budak std 1 pun dah tusyen, apa cite? cikgu ajar tak bagus ker? rasanya sama cam kite dulu or even better coz teachers nowadays semua degree holder. cuma rasanya the passion of teaching tu dah kurang kot sebab student skrg dah tak berapa hormat cikgu2 lagi. just like you said. sedih kan?

i dont make up these story, its my real life experince..

Once, during report card day, i overheard the feedbacks from the teacher to the parents..
.. it make me shiver of shame upon heard the comment made by the teacher of her individual student charater... bukan seorang.. ramai maaa..
.. one that i could remember very well is regarding one student whenever the teacher bz writing something on the black board.. she (i say again ..she) will sneak out from the class.. and school and lepaking with her gang (a group of female student) in kajang town... my god... ((the girl is wearing a tudong mannnn)))..she is only 13+

takut beb nak dapat feed back about my son ketika itu.. luckly the teacher gave me a good report..

fuhhhhhh lega....

apologies for not coming her for quite some time.. time was a bit short on my side...

from what i see... teachers nowadays r totally overburdened by responsibilities other than teaching. Theyr burning out because of those things.

My tesl friends who r generally teaching in secondary schools all over malaysia r generally burning out... yes.. their job is to teach...but the pressure of non teaching related stuffs in the school r taking their tolls.. if i sms them..*how r u*?.. their answer would be *very busy...cant breathe*....

n true... younger generations..not only in malaysia but all over the world r lacking in moral n ethics...

i cant figure out what went wrong myself..

u r back.. the work pressure lessening?

i cant help but agree with simah on teachers being overburdened with unnecessary work. they should just teach like our teachers used to teach back then. today...teachers are burdened with a lot of admin work which is supposed to be done by the admin staff.

admin staff yg dok kat opis tu buat aper? baca paper ke? ari tuh masa pi sekolah nak daftarkan anak tahun 1 next year ada one admin staff boleh duduk relek baca paper...kelas wa cakap sama lu!

but then again there are some black sheeps among dedicated teachers...yg ni yg payah nak cakap nih...hmmm

so how?

Pardon me for adopting the habit of replying late recently...

MANAL --> First and foremost, I thank you a lot for visiting me every now and then. And I feel sorry for not responding to your tag yet. I know I am tagged. Cool

Your point is right over there. The standard of living plays a role as well. Educated parents are high likely to have higher standard of living. And thus, the kids grow up in a conducive environment for learning.

KOPI O --> The formula valid for all the kids around the world.

UBA --> Thanks for dropping by. I snatched that from the net. I love it too.

THETA --> If only the parents can restraint themselves from overflushing with gifts and presents, so then kids would know better the value of achievements without being overshadowed by the material beings.

Agree with you "It takes a village to raise a child"

INTAN --> Too bad if the teacher utter that kind of word, "fed-up". I hope that does not represent the majority of teachers in our country.

HELLI --> The march of time change everything, somehow. It will never be the same anymore. Challenges in recent years are greater as compared to those donkey years.

I do agree that parents do contribute in the changing of the atmostphere but I beg to differ, teachers also still play a role perhaps more on the facilitation part of it.

I look at what your son did as something good when he managed to find solution to edit the program but of course in relation to what is in the real life we do not want kids to find shorcut in learning.

KAK ELLE --> Yeah busy, cari makan.

I know S'pore has got better standard of teaching and learning. In the context of Malaysian environment we are actually not that bad as either. The end products as "humans", morally, we are a bit above though. That's not my words. I read it in a report during the convention I attended the other day.

DLT --> May be so. The passion in teaching among teachers are not there as compared to those years. Some just happened to fall into teaching profession when they fail to enter other schools in the unversity. Hardly from the heart.

NIDE --> That's scary. The reality is, this day it is so rampant. It's not that we didn't have pupils those day as problematic as now but percetage-wise, it is now on the rise and many newly created type of problems are too.

SIMAH --> You know better when it comes to teaching and learning. When teachers are overdosed with all the technical works, perhaps less time to really sit down and look at the pupils as kids to grow up to be adult and less quality time to impart the values that necessary for them to grow up to be humans.

DAVID --> Thanks for coming David. Have a good day.

KC --> If I have a way, I'd tell off those black sheeps to find another jobs. Perhaps I'd suggest them to take up singing lesson or something... hehehe

ANNA LYS --> Thanks for coming ANNA.

That phrase does not belong to me but Albert Einstein. And it's nice indeed.
